'High Horse' Framed Original

"High Horse" explores power, morality, and the stories we inherit without ever being asked if we believe them.

At the center of the piece is a white horse carrying a church and cross on its back, balanced precariously on impossibly long, unsteady legs. Behind it, hidden in plain sight, are a pair of watchful eyes that often go unnoticed at first glance.

Beneath the horse is a landscape rendered entirely in shades of red: exhausted women lying on the ground, a defeated man, a woman crying into her hands, a discarded gun beside a baby doll. 

Running vertically through the composition are the words: question everything.

I created this piece in response to the political moment we are living through in the U.S. and the ways power can hide behind certainty, tradition, and religion. Too often, those in positions of authority use faith as justification for taking rights away from others, judging people who are different from them, or deciding whose lives deserve autonomy and dignity.

The horse became a symbol of moral superiority... the idea of sitting high above others while believing yourself righteous simply because you occupy the right pew, say the right words, or belong to the right group.

The eyes represent something darker: the abuse of power by people and institutions trusted to protect the vulnerable, and the countless moments throughout history when authority has been used against those with the least ability to defend themselves.

This piece isn't asking anyone what to think. It's asking us to examine why we think what we think. To look closer. To stay curious. To question everything.
